Happy Gilmore 2 has officially become Netflix’s biggest U.S. film debut to date. Nearly three decades after the original, Adam Sandler’s return to the golf course drew massive viewership during its opening weekend.

The decade-long partnership between Netflix and Adam Sandler’s production company Happy Madison has culminated in this: Sandler’s legacyquel Happy Gilmore 2 earned the biggest U.S. opening weekend of all time for a Netflix film,

“Happy Gilmore 2” launched on the streamer on July 25. For the week of July 21 through 27, the film generated 46.7 million views, with a view defined as total hours watched divided by the total runtime. That makes this start the biggest U.S. opening weekend of all time for a Netflix film, as well as the best ever for one of Sandler’s movies.
