The Rivian backs up its performance by going on to defeat a Model Y Performance on the short drag run as well, with Tesla’s SUV only able to deliver a 3.99 second 0-60 mph time in comparison.

It weighs 4,844 lbs (2,197 kg), roughly 2,200 lbs (1,000 kg) less than the R1S. In the first race, the Lamborghini and Rivian are neck-and-neck while the Shelby is left far behind.

Among other gas-powered trucks in the competition, a team driving the electric Rivian R1T just took home first place in an impressive off-road effort.

In retrospect, drag racing off-road was probably a bad idea. Now obviously, we knew going into our little race the R1T was a more powerful truck; 835 horsepower is more than 702 any day of the week.

Rivian confirmed that they will race a refreshed R1T at Pikes Peak. The EV startup set a production truck record last year when Rivian's Performance Test Engineer Gardner Nichols raced his truck.
