The Eclipse Foundation has started an effort to create an open-source runtime that could ease the development of component-based software for mobile, desktop and server systems.

The JavaFX SDK, which is available for download from Sun's web site, includes the JavaFX compiler and library components. Sun has also released JavaFX development plugins for NetBeans and Eclipse.
