Android development starts with the Android SDK - a collection of tools needed to build any kind of Android app. Discover what's included and how to use it.

Previously, you'd have to download Android Studio or the SDK to get these, which are a 400MB-1.6GB download. Even the smaller command line tools download is still 200-300MB.

The Android R Preview SDK just appeared in the SDK Manager, meaning there's likely some new stuff to poke through. As you can see from the screenshot above, Android R revision 1 is now in the list.

Google has made ADB and fastboot available as a standalone package, meaning users no longer need to download them with Android Studio or the Android SDK.

The Windows Phone 8.1 development tools are included with Visual Studio 2013. If you already have Visual Studio 2013 installed, you’ll need to install Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 RC.
