TWIN FALLS, Idaho — A 65-year-old Twin Falls County resident has died as a result of contracting West Nile virus (WNV), reports the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
The Salt Lake County Health Department on Thursday announced Utah’s first human case of West Nile virus for 2025. The individual was hospitalized with the severe, neuroinvasive form of the mosquito-borne illness, but is now out of the hospital and recovering at home.

BISMARCK — North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced a rise in reported West Nile virus cases in recent weeks. State health officials are reminding people to continue taking precautions against mosquito bites that can cause West Nile virus infection.
Spraying for West Nile virus-infected mosquitoes is planned for central Fort Collins. On Aug. 17, the spraying of a fine mist of permethrin-based product will occur within the following boundaries: From Shields Street on the west to Lemay Avenue on the east, between Mulberry Street on the north to Harmony Road on the south.
Health experts say a confirmed case of West Nile Virus is connected to someone who travelled outside of Manitoba, but that doesn't mean there won't be homegrown cases this summer.
