MOSCOW, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Sovereign nations have the right to choose their trade and economic partners based on their own interests, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

He further stated that India's decision to purchase discounted Russian oil followed the outbreak of the Ukraine conflict, which led traditional energy suppliers to divert their exports towards Europe.
